Objectives
- 1) Non-Hazardous Drugs - Compounding Personnel Cleansing, Garbing, and Material Handling
- - Recognize the most important way to reduce the risk of transmitting infection causing organisms.
- - Recognize the most important factor in preventing the spread of pathogens in healthcare settings.
- - Correctly sequence the order for washing hands.
- - Define the acronym PPE.
- -Identify what can transport microorganisms to critical sites during compounding.
- - Recognize the importance of keeping fingernails in proper condition.
- - Properly sequence the garbing process.
- 2) Use of syringes, needles, vials, ampules, and filters
- - Define both syringe and needle.
- - Identify the parts of a syringe and a needle.
- - State critical handling tips for each device.
- - Recommend the appropriate syringe size based on volume of solution.
- - Sequence removing drugs from a vial.
- - Sequence attaching a needle to a syringe.
- 3) Overview of Engineering Controls
- - Identify the different engineering concepts employed in pharmacies to create controlled environments.
- - List the different airflow concepts employed in primary and secondary engineering controls.
- - Define HEPA filter.
- - Distinguish between a positive pressure room and a negative pressure room.
